“Pure, Unadulterated Joy”: Come See My Work In Southern California

“Sugar Pills and Sunny D”, one of my pieces on display at Brea Gallery starting July 23.

I am in Los Angeles this week for a group show opening Saturday July 23 at Brea Gallery titled “Pure, Unadulterated Joy” which features some of my teenage still life series and disco balls. This is my first time showing my paintings in California and I’m thrilled to participate in this exhibit alongside 10 other artists. 

Here is the Brea Gallery show primer to set the stage for the opening:

“After the endlessly bleak last two years of the covid-19 pandemic, people need a little pop of brightness in their lives. And the Brea Gallery is here to provide just that! Filled to the brim with the most brightly-colored, joyous, pop-culture-nostalgic artwork to be found, this syrupy sweet exhibit is sure to leave the 90s kids of Lisa Frank with a real sugar rush. Exploring the contemporary resurgences of pop art, super saturated color, low brow subject matter, and surrealism, this art show showcases everything from the downright adorable to the creepy cute, guaranteed to put a smile on anyone’s face.”

Two of my most recent teenage still life paintings, Belly Rings and Sugar Pills and Sunny D, will be on display, along with several past favorites from the series and three disco ball originals. Of course, there will be tons more artwork to see from my fellow exhibiting artists: Darel Carey, Andrea Guzzetta, Nina Jun, Elise Cervantes Martinez, Jeremy Rise, Daniel “Attaboy” Seifert, Sarah Stieber, Devon Walz, Sarah Anne Ward and Ingrid Wells. I’ve seen their work and I cannot wait to experience all this color curated together.

The opening reception is Saturday from 5pm-7pm and I would love to see you there! It’s free to the public and refreshments will be served. The show runs from July 23 to September 16.
